Granted this review is a little late to the table, but we had to bring you our take on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.
So if you haven’t yet managed to get down to your nearest cinema, and check out the second instalment in the Guardians saga I recommend you do. Or at this point try and pre-order it from your merchant of choice. If for nothing else the opening sequence to the film is truly amazing! You check in with the Guardians as they are mid mission, protecting some batteries from a space creature, a couple of quick one liners and then a few minutes of Baby Groot getting his groove on to the music accompanying the fight scene.
Although the first movie was a fantastic addition to the ever expanding Marvel Universe I think the fact that we already know what to expect from these characters looses a little flair from this movie that the first one remains the better of the two. That being said it is by no means a bad movie. This is to be kept way way apart from the first X-Men Origins films and Spiderman 3.
After the opening battle scene we move into the usual pace of the Marvel films, we see the story line become established. After a quick catch up of what has happened in the time between the first and second part of the series. Then the Guardians are off doing what they do best, defending the Galaxy from the newest danger that has reared its ugly head.
Another difference between this film and the first one is that the Marvel team have really upped the use of music during the movie. Almost too much of it had music running through and this combined with an overuse of one liners had a slightly negative effect on the film in some aspects. The first one had a good mix and it worked well and it works well here but there were some parts that it seemed it was thrown in unnecessarily. The main villain in the movie also didn’t live too much up to the hype. I think that might be more due to the bigger plan for the Guardians in the Marvel Universe but for that we will have to wait and see.
You can check out the trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 below and it is definitely a strong addition the Marvel Universe. Great effects, a good story line, some good tunes and good jokes combine to another entertaining movie for your viewing pleasure.
