Tyler the Creator is a man of many, many talents. He sprung onto the scene with Odd Future back in 2007 and has only got more exposure as the years go on. In the last ten years he has had success in his music career, designed various types of clothes having great success in the sock game (a target most designers don’t even attempt), and has a fairly successful TV career. This last point should hopefully gain a bit more recognition now his Nuts & Bolts by Tyler the Creator show has released on Viceland.
“Whether it is simply his personality and characteristics or his ADHD playing a role we get to see someone extremely interested in all of the things being shown to him.”
In Nuts & Bolts, we see Tyler exploring all of the things behind the scenes of everything he loves. You can learn things from watching it so it fits as informative. Whether the things you learn will benefit you, or things you’ve ever wondered about I’m not sure. However, it is informative. Primarily though Tyler is a brilliant host for any show where you are exploring the intricate details behind things. Whether it is simply his personality and characteristics or his ADHD playing a role we get to see someone extremely interested in all of the things being shown to him.
He looks at ideas with a slight glimmer of how a child would, and I mean that in the most positive way. Most people become ‘adults’ and lose that childlike charm, the ability to wonder why something can’t work a certain way etc. because we know of science and logic and all these other things that slowly shrink our imaginations to a much more realistic world. This aspect of growing up into an ‘adult’ is something that Tyler doesn’t seem to have filtered out. And it is that reason that this sort of show works and is as entertaining and interesting as it is.
Tyler shows genuine enthusiasm for all of the things within the show. Admittedly this could be because he has created the subject for the episodes. That being said I believe he would be as interested in the way most things work if he was given the freedom to explore them how he wanted. His involvement in all aspects of the making of whatever product keeps you watching. It shows you the in’s and out’s of everything from stop-motion animation to breakfast. I for one hope there is a series two, and three, and four, and so on.
As I mentioned earlier the trailer is at the bottom of this article. Please check it out and stick it in your diary. If you don’t have access to Viceland through your TV it is available through their website just click here. Once Tyler is done with this I really hope Viceland give him an interview style show or even his own game show!
