I love training, the only thing is I’m more of a couch potato unless I have a personal trainer. I know that now is the time to pull myself together and do it myself! I’m not one to work out with a fitness DVD as it can get boring and repetitive very quickly. Does this sounds relatable? Sound like you? Then carry on reading because I’m about to tell you all about how to start working out at home (or anywhere you fancy, in respect).
First things first, take some selfies. There’s nothing like looking back to see how far you’ve come and what you have achieved. The hype for a ‘transformation pic’ is always there! You can share this to your social media audience to inspire others but most importantly it’s for you to reflect on your progress and credit yourself on how far you’ve come.
Mix up your workouts – don’t stick to the same workouts every time you train. Mix it up and try something different! It’s also important to ensure you don’t focus on working out one part of your body more than the others. Working your body out evenly means that you won’t be too sore in areas more than others, it also means that you’re giving your muscles time to heal.
Not every session needs gym style equipment. If you’re new to training or have had a long time off, using your body weight is a good starting point. Then you can slowly add weights at your own pace once knowing what you are capable of.
Focus on a goal – this helps big time! Knowing what you want to achieve from training means you’re less likely to be distracted. At the same time, training requires consistency, discipline and a lot of motivation. So if you only have 3 months to get ‘Ibiza ready,’ you better be determined to get the bod you want! Prepare to make yourself work for where you want to get it.
Starting small is the key, jumping into the deep end straight away will do more damage than good. Your body needs to get used to working out so don’t be afraid to take your time in building up but at the same time remember to push yourself.
