Vs. The Movie stars Premier Battles co-owner Adam Rooney (Shotty Horroh), alongside Conor Swindells (Keepers), Fola Evans-Akingbola (Siren) and Joivan Wade (The First Purge). Conor Swindells’ character is introduced to UK battle rap, and serves as a controversial figure in the scene. Swindells has his troubles outside of battle rap, including a re-introduction to his biological mum, and dealing with demons in his past. It’s clear that director Ed Lilly has spoken to UK rap battle veterans to get this level of insight for the character.
That being said, the film is credited as Ed Lilly’s debut feature film, who we think has done a fantastic job of bringing UK battle rap to the forefront, without compromising the culture. Credits in the official press release are given to Rowan ‘Eurgh’ Faife, Tony D, Shuffle T, and Gemin1. It’s great to know that various figureheads and tenured battlers have been consulted and had an opportunity to share their input. This will only be favourable among existing fans.
